Things to Do After Leaving a Walk-In Interview

Things to Do After Leaving a Walk-In Interview

1. Take a Moment to Reflect

After you walk out of the interview venue:

  • Find a quiet space and note down your thoughts:
  1. What questions were asked?
  2. Which answers went well?
  3. Where did you struggle?
  • This helps in preparing better for future interviews — even if you don’t get this job.

Pro Tip: Keep an interview diary or digital notes (Google Keep, Notion, etc.)

2. Send a Thank You Message (if possible)

If you received the interviewer’s email or interacted with HR:

  • Send a polite thank you message or email on the same day or the next day.

Sample Message:

“Dear [HR’s Name],
Thank you for the opportunity to attend the walk-in interview for the [Job Role] at [Company Name]. I appreciated the interaction and am excited about the possibility of joining your team. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
[Your Full Name]”

Only do this if you have their email or LinkedIn contact. Don’t force or spam.

3. Follow Up with HR

If they told you that results will be shared in X days:

  • Wait patiently till that date.
  • If no response after the expected time, follow up with a polite WhatsApp or email.

Sample Follow-up WhatsApp:

“Hi [HR Name], I’m [Your Name]. I attended the walk-in interview on [Date] for the [Role] position. Just checking in to know if there’s any update on the result. Thank you!”

4. Connect with Employees or HR on LinkedIn

This helps to:

  • Stay updated about future openings.
  • Get referral opportunities.
  • Build your professional network.

Steps:

  • Search “[Company Name] HR” or “Talent Acquisition [Company]” on LinkedIn.
  • Send a personalized connect request like:

“Hi [Name], I recently attended a walk-in interview at your company. I’d like to stay connected for future opportunities. Thanks!”

5. Keep Applying to Other Jobs

Don’t sit idle waiting for a single result. Walk-ins often take time or don’t respond.

Keep applying to:

  • Other walk-in drives
  • Job portals (Naukri, Foundit, LinkedIn, apna, etc.)
  • Company career pages

Always have 3–5 active applications in the pipeline.

6. Update Your Resume if Needed

Based on your experience:

  • If any skills were missing, add certifications or training.
  • Include the walk-in interview in your resume under “Interview Experience” (optional for freshers).

Example:

Interviewed at TechMahindra for Voice Process (July 2025) – Cleared 2 rounds.

7. Continue Skill Development

If you missed out on selection:

  • Try to understand what went wrong: was it language, confidence, technical questions?
  • Use this gap time to:
  1. Practice mock interviews
  2. Improve spoken English or technical skills
  3. Take relevant online courses (Coursera, Udemy, YouTube)
8. Join Telegram/WhatsApp Job Groups

Stay active in:

  • Walk-in interview alert groups
  • Freshers’ job update channels
  • Location-specific job networks (e.g., “Hyderabad BPO Walkins”)

This helps you:

  • Be among the first to know about new openings
  • Get crowd feedback from others who attended
9. Take Care of Health and Appearance

Sometimes walk-ins happen on back-to-back days. So:

  • Take rest, stay hydrated
  • Maintain good grooming (clean shave, ironed clothes)
  • Prepare a backup set of resumes and documents in a folder
10. Keep the Interview ID or Reference Number Safe

If the company gave you:

  1. Candidate ID
  2. Walk-in Interview Slip
  3. Barcode or QR code
  • Don’t lose it.

You may be called for:

  1. Further rounds
  2. Onboarding after a week/month
  3. Joining formalities
